Hvidbog Uppsala: Den regionale nätverksby
For the first time in the history of NCN-seminars, the dominant theme extended both the whole urban dimension as well as it included not only the member cities of NCN but also representatives from the four fast growing capitols in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.
The focus on the "regional city" clearly indicates the position of the city in a larger regional, national and even international context.
One often repeated statement that all cities are in incapsulated in a competetive hierarchy was on this seminar further analyzed and described through the detailed and complex structure of how cities actually in practice are a part of a larger infrastructure. The host city Uppsala is for instance strongly connected to the Stockholm-region which was demonstrated through a number of exellent presentations and the relationship between the capitols and the rest of their respective countries was also outlined by presentations from all four capitols - and the main conclusion was clear: even now entering the information- and knowledge-society where the meaning of physical borders are supposed to disappear or at least diminish it is still clear that transportation habits and systems are vital for the larger cities in the Nordic countries and are vital for both urbanisation in a broad sense as well as for the life of the individual in the modern Nordic city.
