In November 2020, Nordic City Network hosts the conference Nordic City Stories – a co-creation process and joint opening of the member cities’ local stories. We showcase and discuss their stories with examples of co-creation in local urban planning and development.
For several years, Nordic City Network has been working on the examination of the typical Nordic city approach to city planning. We have studied our member cities’ most urban development projects. Observing civil communities’ ways of organization has informed us how we as a public administration can address these initiatives more efficiently. We have also investigated the conditions and needs of urban businesses and how we, when we design and develop our cities, can support future businesses.
This accumulated knowledge is applied when each city launches their separate stories of co-creation in urban city developing. The target group is primarily the residents and stakeholders of each city.
The purpose of the local story is to enable their ability to:
RECOGNIZE their cities - to focus on its sustainable development
UNDERSTAND their cities - to discover and perceive the city
CHANGE their cities - to develop the city based on what people need
During the process leading up to Nordic City Stories, we come together in Nordic City Labs, where we share knowledge, ideas and inspiration in order for the local story projects to move forward.
