In 2025, NCN celebrates its 20th anniversary. We are marking this occasion by conducting a joint analysis of contemporary Nordic urban development. During 2013–2014, Nordic City Network worked on collecting examples of “groundbreaking urban development projects” from our members. The result was the publication “450 Urban Projects in the Nordics,” which provided an exciting insight into the state of Nordic urban development in 2014. Now, we are revisiting the publication to examine what became of the projects – did they have the impact we predicted? We also ask ourselves if, by revisiting these projects and examining their effects, if we can learn something about the future of urban development.
Read more about the project in our conclusion of the NCN year of 2024.
The purpose of our analysis of contemporary Nordic urban development is to examine how the conditions and norms for developing our cities have changed over time. Our goal is to better understand what knowledge, approaches, and tools we need to develop cities that are adapted to future needs.
We want to include more parties in this discussion. Therefore, we offer Nordic municipalities that aren’t members today a chance to join the network for a free test period during the year of 2025. Our expectation is that more cities will want to be part of building shared knowledge within Nordic City Network moving forward.
