Morning meeting on Livable and vibrant city centers
In 2024, the Nordic City Network is exploring the theme of ‘Livable and vibrant cities – How do we develop attractive cities and urban environments?’ On March 5th, the first morning meeting of this spring delved into the question of how we create lively city centers. Three speakers from academia, practice, and business shared their perspectives on what contributes to a vibrant city center:
- Mikkel Niess from BID Denmark discussed the evolving role of city centers in light of changing conditions brought about by the pandemic, war, energy crises, online commerce, and high rents.
- Lotten Wirén from Linköping University presented new tools and knowledge for adapting to heat in urban environments.
- Michelle S. Wright, Hilde Berntsen, and Knut Johan Vik from Trondheim Municipality provided updates on their work with the city’s new central area strategy.
